As a working mom of 2 and a military wife, I need to get creative when life shows up.

Is that something you’ve said when you feel like everything is falling apart financially?

“Money doesn’t grow on tree’s”. All these beliefs stem from your childhood.

It’s how you were raised and sadly it’s common.

My hope is to help you change with some deep rewiring and change those thoughts into something more proactive.

Do We Attach Fear To Money?

I get it.

Money can be complicated to talk about.

I found that how you relate to money can reveal so much insight into yourself and how you think... act.

I think many people attach fear to it.

We depend on it for basic survival needs… like food and water.

So, if you don’t have money… you can’t pay the rent, you can’t buy food or we can’t pay the water bill.

Fear.

Then those negative feelings come creeping in.

Am I going to go hungry? Do you feel embarrassed?

How can you change this?

How can you heal your relationship with money?

It all starts with your thoughts at a young age. You are programmed.

The unconscious mind is not logical. It doesn’t stop and think about what you want or what’s best for you and your relationship with money. It just does whatever it’s been programmed to do. In fact, your mind will not allow you to deviate from the programs you hold in your unconscious. It will do whatever it takes to prove these unconscious programs about money to be true. — Paul McKenna Ph.D.

So, what he is saying here, we need to create new thoughts about money in a repetitive way so our subconscious mind reprograms itself.

You can turn fear into love and gratitude.

5 Ways You Can Change Your Relationship With Money

The key here is to not allow those negative thoughts to consume you.

Let’s get into those 10 ways that I found from experience and the experience of others around the net that have helped heal people’s relationship with money.

Just remember: You have the power in each moment to choose the way you wish to respond. Never make things worse than they have to be and take one day at a time.

#1. “You Are What You Think”

Make sure you really watch how you are feeling and what you’re thinking when financial situations arise.

Write it down. When you realize that you’re having a negative feeling… stop and figure out a way to reframe that thought.

For example… If you say to yourself, “I can’t afford that”, you immediately tell your subconscious mind it’s over. Nothing can be done at this point.

You programmed yourself to never think. Take the easy way out.

Instead, you could say… “HOW can I afford that?” This way you reframed your thought and now you’re using your brain to think creatively.

#2. Practice Repetition

The only way you’re going to be able to change the programming in your subconscious as it relates to money is by changing your thoughts through habit-forming.

You can practice daily by saying affirmations.

“I am so happy and grateful now that I have money flowing into my bank account every month that covers everything I need.”

Say that religiously every day. Multiple times per day. You will start to see a change in your actions and your thoughts.

Of course, there are hundreds of affirmations out there focused around money.

#3. Gratitude.

You need to speak money into existence. Be grateful for what you do have.

Say, I love money! Say this out loud.

When you receive money, either through a paycheck, gift or from a business… celebrate it!

No matter how small or big.

#4. Have Forgiveness

Now that I’m in my 40’s… I just started saving for retirement. It’s actually a normal thing for people going into their forties to start.

It’s not taught in schools and unless you had or have financially savvy parents, this is your outcome.

Well, how can I save and invest the money I don’t have?

That’s probably what most people would say.

I did.

I went straight to my parents and was upset because they didn’t teach me to save or invest when I was younger… now I’m scrambling for retirement.

Of course, this is the wrong mindset.

Instead, I need to forgive my parents for stories about money as a kid.

This way I’m free to create my own. To think for me.

#5. Define What Money Means To You

Do you see poverty when you think of money or do you see yourself traveling and feeling free?

Free to do what you love with who you love.

That’s what I see.

I see myself with a successful online business helping people solve problems in our industry and helping to educate them.

I mean, what would it mean to you if you suddenly received an abundant amount of cash?

More freedom? More comfort? More time?

It would mean different things to different people.

It all starts with your thoughts.

Learning to make peace with money, for me, came from educating myself while on my journey to building a business online.

I always wondered why the next guy always “made it” and I never would… even though I know I’m smart enough.

Now I know and I understand how to reframe my thoughts and break through those limitations.

My mentor, Dave Sharpe, was the person who introduced me to this concept while participating in a 15 day business building challenge.

Who knew that mindset was so foundational when starting this journey.
